CAROLINA GIAMMETTA is an award winning Writer/Director. As an actress she has worked in TV, Film, Theatre and Radio with directors including: Mike Leigh, Julian Jarrold, Armando Iannucci, Roger Michell, Samantha Morton, Jim Loach and many more.
She has written and directed several acclaimed short films (including UKFC/EM Media ‘PAPA’, ‘NOT COMING IN’ & ‘ORNAMENTAL’) that have been selected for International Film Festivals and been nominated & won several Best Short Film awards across the world . ‘MAN UP’ starring Nick Moran, was a shortlist finalist in the REED FILM COMPETITION 2013 and VIRGIN MEDIA SHORTS 2013 over 1000 films and was screened at cinemas across UK and numerous movie channels throughout 2013/2014. Her TV series script, ‘GLAMPING’ was short-listed for the BAFTA/Rocliffe NEW YORK TV FESTIVAL competition and she has worked as a director for BBC COMEDY on ‘FUNNY PLUS ONE' (BBC3 & Online).
Work includes: ‘I DON’T CARE’ highly acclaimed short film, commissioned by FILM LONDON and produced by Spool Films (starring Billie-Jo Bailey, Andrea Lowe & Jo Hartley) recently launched online (VIMEO STAFF PICK, SHORT OF THE WEEK, DAILY PICKS on FILMSHORTAGE) Multi award winning ‘NIGHT ARMOUR’ (starring Elizabeth Berrington and Dan Fredenburgh) that premiered at BFI LOCO, selected for 18 Film Festivals world wide and won Best Short Film at Broad Humor in LA (voted by MovieMaker as the Best Female Comedy Film Festival in the world). Her promo for BP ‘ BUMP’ was one of the competition winners for the MoFilm Competition 2014. She has recently completed a series of 28 short period films about the British Civil War involving CGI, SFX and VFX (WINNER: 2x Cannes Silver Dolphins TV & Media awards and nominated for RTS Award 2015)
She recently directed 2x Original Screenplays with ARTSED / BBC WRITERSROOM and 9x episodes of DOCTORS for BBC DRAMA and is currently directing CASUALTY for BBC1.
She has three Feature Films in development and has been selected for this year’s iFeatures (Creative England/BFI/BBC Films) with BLOW UP DOLLS http://www.ifeatures.co.uk/blow-up-dolls.html a comedy sci-fi set in Burnley with writer Joy Wilkinson and Producer Jude Goldrei (who recently won the BFI’s producers Vision Award) and PIZZA FACE with producer Sarah Brocklehurst.
Her theatre work includes: ‘SWIPE’ The Arcola Theatre London written by award winning writer Simon Vinnicombe, ‘ELECTRICITY’ The Arcola Theatre with writer Miriam Battye (Bruntwood shortlister). Last summer she devised and directing 'RIPPLE' a new commission with writer Monsay Whitney for NYT.
Selected for Talent Labs & Schemes: Carolina is an alumni of : EIFF-Edinburgh International Film Festival TALENT LAB, SCREEN YORKSHIRE’S TRIANGLE programme, BFI/ LFF Think- Shoot- Distribute Development Scheme. THE BUREAU SOS script development scheme with her feature ‘PIZZA FACE’ and was nominated for the IMDB ‘ Script to Screen’ award.
Last year she created and set up SHORTFLIX with CREATIVE ENGLAND, SKY ARTS, NYT & BFI Creative Skillset, a brand new initiative that seeks, trains and nurtures raw, new filmmaking talent from across the UK for socially diverse and underrepresented backgrounds, to make 5x short films to be showcased on SKY ARTS, bringing new voices to the screen.
